At Grampound with Creed CofE School, we are working hard to ensure all pupils have access to a Mastery approach that embeds life-long confidence in Maths.
All pupils in our school are taught number concepts, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, through the use of manipulatives. These manipulatives are readily available in classrooms across the school and pupils are actively encouraged to use these to support their learning. To compliment this approach, pupils’ fluency skills are enhanced through the use of stem sentences.
Alongside some of the other schools in Celtic Cross Education, we are using White Rose as a main resource for embedding Maths Mastery. Through this approach, pupils work collaboratively to apply their fluency and discuss solutions to reasoning and problem solving questions.
In order to promote Maths Mastery at home, we use Sumdog; an online Mastery programme which offers pupils a personalised learning path, pacing their progress at a level that is suited to them. Our pupils also access Numbots and Times Tables Rock Stars, to support their fluency.
If you are a parent who is wondering how to support Maths at home, please use our Calculation Policies below, which clearly show how to represent a concept using a range of CPA (concrete, pictorial, abstract) approaches. Our class teachers are happy to support and guide you through this.
