Maths

At Grampound with Creed CofE School, we are working hard to ensure all pupils have access to a Maths Mastery approach that enables good progress from EYFS through to Year 6.

All pupils in our school are taught number concepts, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, through the use of manipulatives. These manipulatives are readily available in classrooms across the school and pupils are actively encouraged to use these to support learning. To compliment this approach, pupils’ fluency skills are enhanced through the use of stem sentences.

Alongside other schools in Celtic Cross Education, we are using Power Maths as a main resource for embedding Maths Mastery. Pupils work collaboratively to discuss solutions to reasoning and problem solving questions and then apply these ideas in their Power Maths.

In order to promote Maths Mastery at home, we use Sum Dog; an online Mastery programme which offers pupils a personalised learning path, pacing their progress at a level that is suited to them.

If you are a parent who is wondering how to support Maths at home, please use our Calculation Policies below, which clearly show how to represent a concept using the CPA approach (concrete, pictorial, abstract). Our class teachers are happy to support and guide you through this.
